| Hello Pod 5-3 Families! |
Our pod is doing such an amazing job fundraising for the
Move-A-Thon! As a whole pod, we have raised over $6,000 for our school! Let's keep up the great work!
Next week is "spirit week": read below to see what our school "themes" are for each day of the week.
- In Math, We are working on adding and subtracting decimals. Next week we will review on Monday and Tuesday. The unit test will be on Wednesday.
- In Science, Next week we will begin the study of Atoms.
- In Language Arts, we have been practicing new vocabulary words and using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words in our reading. We recently finished our "Fall Poems" using imagery, the 5 senses, and descriptive words. The students spent many classes "work-shopping" their poems and they all turned out so unique and creative! I think our favorite part of the process was when we took the time to read our poetry aloud with the class and students shared their feedback with their classmates. The students were so thoughtful in their kind comments to one another. We also recently just read the short story "Camping with the President" about President Roosevelt's time with John Muir at Yosemite and in nature. Next week, we will be reading the story titled "The Boy Who Invented TV".
- In Social Studies,
- Kurtz: We are wrapping up chapter 2 by practicing our newly learned map skills! Students have created an "Island Map" that includes: a map key, accurate latitude and longitude coordinates, scale of miles, a compose rose, etc. Next week, we will be starting chapter 3 which is on the "Northeast" region of the United States.
- Kelly: We completed unit 3 and began the study of the Northeast Region. Student used their artistic skills to draw a map of the region.

- Monday- Sports day (wear your favorite team's color or jersey!)
- Tuesday- McKelvie day! (wear school gear or the colors navy & gold)
- Wednesday- Crazy hat and sock day
- Thursday- Move-A-Thon shirt or athletic clothes so you are ready for outside moving!
- Friday- Halloween costume or comfiest sweats!
- In the Kurtz homeroom, we have just about 6 chapters left of the novel "Brave Like That" by Lindsey Stoddard. This is a "Great Stone Face Nominee 2022". We are eager to hear how it ends!
